Why does France have an Arc of Triumph when...?

France didn't win anything but got crushed during WW2? They also hold other monuments like Nepoleon's monuments etc... This nation seems to have monuments of victory commemorating events of their losses! Noticed that?

Why does France have an Arc of Triumph when...?

The Arc Is The French Way Of Remembering There War Dead Much The Same Way that We Remember Ours

So Dont You Think We Should Show Some Respect For It.

So invading armies have a place to rest in the shade.
yes i agree..
Great Napoleonic victories, and then even greater Napoleonic defeats. Defeats in 1870 against Prussia, defeats followed the mutiny in 1917, the

Vichy Government followed by a drubbing in Indo-China.

It's all a matter of 'La Gloire'. Every Frenchman was a member of the resistance and the proud blood and spirit of Rene Artois runs through every vein. Read this very carefully I shall write this only wernce.... Vive Galoise, vive garlic, vive collaberation, vive La France.....and of course Charles de Gaulle !!!

I think you may have a point.
You do realize that there are were more wars in Europe than WWII.

France also did have an empire for a time.
The French nation does have an overinflated ego!! I often thought they should call it the Arc de Submission!!
The French look after THEMSELVES!
Why have you bought into trendy right-wing French bashing? Enough is enough!
The arch honours those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars, and today also includes the tomb of the unknown soldier.
